Always doing their part to help the community, the folks of The Cottage Bar and Grill, 1250 Estero Blvd., are planning to host their annual Cinco de Mayo fund-raiser all day Friday, May 5, this year to benefit the Fort Myers Beach Fireworks fund, to help pay for the island fireworks displays July 4th and New Year's Eve.

"Fort Myers Beach is always looking for a reason to party, and The Cottage is always looking for a way to help the community. Holidays like this give us an opportunity to do both!" said Roxanne Jakaitis, bar manager of the island establishment. "As you may have already heard, the town of Fort Myers Beach has had a difficult year financially; between the costs of on-going road construction, and Lake O water releases, tourism on the island has been impacted creating budgetary challenges. As a result, our annual fireworks display is in jeopardy. We chose to help the Fort Myers Beach Fireworks Fund this year because businesses rely on the fireworks displays to bring people out to the beach to celebrate."

Look forward to plenty of muy caliente drinks and treats at The Cottage Friday, with raffles, prizes, giveaways and live music taking place at the north-end eatery.

The music schedule for the day is as follows:

2 to 3:30 p.m.: Steve Farst Trio

4 to 5 p.m.: 3 Crooked Steps

5:30 to 6:30 p.m.: A200

7 to 8 p.m.: Chris Casdia

9 p.m. to 1 a.m.: Troubled Makers

Raffle prizes include anything from flatscreen TVs and restaurant gift certificates to hotels stays and golf packages, with anything in between, but as Roxanne says, "We are still in desperate need of raffle prizes!"

Any business or resident who would like to make a donation for the raffles, which will help raise more for the fireworks fund, call The Cottage, 239-765-5440, and ask to speak to a manager.
