On May 10, the Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation followed its annual tradition of awarding both academic scholarships and charitable giving to island students and organizations in need. Due to a variety of successful fund raising efforts, three scholarships were awarded this year after careful review of 15 applicants. Each student, Sydney Wallace, Jordan Wallace and Madison Tezak will each receive $3000.

Charities Awards: The following awards, totaling $9000, were also presented to representatives from each organization: ACT, $1000; BACA, $1,000; Choice Market, $1,000; St. Vincent DePaul, $1,000; Guardian Ad Litem, $1,000; Laces of Love, $1,000; LARC, $500; Mound House, $500; Ostego Bay Foundation, $500; Sew Sews, $500; Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve, $500; Renee's Closet, $300; and U.S. Power Squadron, $200.

It was a celebration of joy and tears of appreciation as the Community Foundation set a record of giving $23,000 in scholarships and charitable awards. Many of these organizations rely solely on donations and carefully manage their funds to maximize the impact for their targeted need.
