Paint, Pour, Play - Knotty Bean hosts Art Party on Fort Myers Beach Aug. 23
August 16, 2017

The Knotty Bean Coffee Bar, 2801 Estero Blvd., has been hosting many special and artistic evenings since first opening earlier this summer. The next collaboratively creative event is a painting Art Party on Fort Myers Beach, taking place Wednesday, Aug. 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m., teaming up with Vino's Picasso Paint, Pour, Play.

Guests to the special artist event will have fun staining and painting wood pallet signs in the "Welcome Pineapple" design, perfect for any beach home or office.

"We came together to try to bring some art, culture and fun down to the beach during its off season. Locals love to continue going to special events taking place there, so we got together and hosted these events," said Mercedes Price Harry, owner of Vino's Picasso, who teamed up with Knotty Bean Coffee Bar owner Valorie Steinbeck.

During the next Art Night collaborations, guests can enjoy glasses of wine and other treats while creating a fun piece of pineapple couture.

"It's a lot of fun. Recently, we've been delving into wood and wood-pallet workshops, a different medium, so during our get-together next Wednesday, we're going to stain and paint a pineapple, the international symbol for welcome, friendship, and hospitality, on a 6"-by-24" wood board," Mercedes said. "It will be a nice piece you can either hang in your home, your office, business, or a nice gift."

Knotty Bean owner Valorie is excited about this new medium. "I think it's going to be another sold-out event," she said. "The unique thing about this class is it's on a different medium. So, it'll be a nice piece you can either hang by the lanai, by the front door. It's a different look, very tropical, very fun, and gives you a chance to explore painting on a different surface."

All materials are included during the workshop, from the paint, aprons and paintbrushes to the wood pallets and stain and all artist expertise levels are welcome.

"Experience is never needed," Mercedes said. "It's just such a fun time, two hours of fun to come and get creative. It's good for the juices, good for the brain. It's great for older parents, great for bonding with your significant other, on maybe anight out with your girlfriends. And in the end, you have a fun time and take away something for yourself."

Wine and drinks will be available that evening through the Knotty Bean on a donation basis, and a special spread of snacks, treats and appetizers will be set up to perfectly complement the blends, as well as the coffee shop's consistently fine selection of cafe blends and noshes.

The cost to participate in the two-hour class is $30. This is not a BYOB?event, and guests should arrive dressed to paint. Ages 13 and up are welcome to participate, and a 24-hour cancellation policy applies to all RSVPs. Be sure to RSVP as early as you can, as the last Vino's Picasso/Knotty Bean get-together sold out.

"I just want people to come out and express their artistic side whether you are or not it's a wonderful gathering to reconnect, talk, enjoy, have fun. It's so low key, fun, relaxed. Mercedes does such a great job, and everybody is their own artist and whatever they create, it's going to be beautiful," Valorie said.

Coming up for

the Knotty Bean

The Knotty Bean will be closed all through September for updates, including a very special surprise menu item that's sure to knock your socks off when it's unveiled upon their re-opening in October.

Valorie says she plans to continue the art nights on at least a monthly basis, and also wants to start up a Memory Caf for those suffering with early stages of Alzheimer's, ALS, dementia and other memory-affecting illnesses.

"I'm going to call them Wayback Wednesdays, and offer them from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month, where we will be open only for those suffering from the early stages of dementia and other memory-affecting illnesses,"?Valorie said. "Everything will be available for them, and only on a donation basis would they pay anything. This is in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Association:?Bonita Chapter; trying to create a resource where they can feel comfortable, a safe place for them."

Look forward to continued advanced coverage on these very special gatherings and events in the Beach Bulletin and Beach Observer as they develop. In the meantime, find the Knotty Bean Coffee Bar on Facebook, @knottybeancoffeebar, visit or call 239-233-8635.
