Thanks to local businesses

To the Editor:

I just wanted to write a letter of thanks to:

1. Topps. Thank you Joe for the bags you gave the Beach Baptist Church. It was much needed, your store always has this island's back. And don't forget the veggie sale they have on the last Thursday of every month! A multitude of fresh fruits and veggies at a great price!

2. Beach Baptist Church feeds this island all year round but this slow time, with the roller coaster still being built on Estero, it's being attended by more and more islanders. Once a year they have a free dental program. I took advantage of it this time and had a chip fixed in my front tooth, a procedure that would have cost a pretty penny. Thank you Craig aka Tom Petty and his lovely wife Johnette for talking me into signing up. I thought signing up would be an all day event but it only took seconds and just one hour of excruciating pain - just kidding! They were very friendly and everyone there volunteered their time. They were all wonderful and very kind. This time of year is hard on the Choice Market, if you would like to donate money, every dollar is like $5. You can send donations to Beach Baptist, 130 Connecticut St., or drop off donated food with Craig Wednesday or Thursday at the market or any Sunday when he turns into Tom Petty and plays in the church with an assortment of gifted musicians.

If it is nonperishables you can drop off at the market any time or day of the week. The market is open to the public every Thursday from 11 to 4 p.m. And there is a great youth program as well.

3. Dr. TruAx who was the dentist who attended to me that day, a very kind old soul who did the mending to my cracked tooth. Sometimes you find yourself behind the eight ball, not enough pennies to rub out a dime or a thousand dimes, as far as teeth go. I may have lost that tooth or just have a very unattractive smile, being it was front and center, a silly accident. Not something you plan on and no insurance, what's a babe to do? Dr. TruAx, 2051 McGregor Blvd., Project Dentist Care. Low income dentist, I can't tell you it will be free, that was a lucky day for me at the Baptist Church. But I know depending on your wages he is fair and caring and cares more about you.

4. Sweet Melissa, you will be so missed. We love you sweet Melissa, keep shining that light.

Keep shining,

Sandy Blu'
